The member states of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Treaty on Trade of the Peoples (ALBA-TCP) have expressed their strong opposition to the recent passage of a bill in the United States House of Representatives on November 18, 2024.”

This project seeks to intensify the “criminal and illegal economic blockade” imposed on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, which they have described as a “grotesque interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state.

“The aim is to hinder the country’s economic recovery and prevent Venezuela’s economic relations and cooperation, adding to the more than 930 unilateral and extraterritorial coercive measures already applied against the Venezuelan people,” they said.

The statement also emphasized that the legislative project is a “gross offense” to the legacy of Liberator Simón Bolívar, who dedicated his life to the struggle for freedom in Latin America and firmly opposed imperialism. “This project represents a mockery of the memory of the Liberator Simón Bolívar, a fundamental and historical figure of Latin America’s independence,” they stated.

ALBA-TCP called on the nations of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the international community, to condemn this act, which is considered illegal and violates national sovereignty.

“We demand respect for the UN Charter and the norms of international law, as well as for the will of free, independent, and sovereign peoples,” they concluded.
